I remember once hearing someone say, "God orders our steps and our stops".  This thought has been on my mind often this past week and for good reason.

As a couple, it seemed like a door of opportunity was opening up for my husband and myself to move location.  We began to make plans.  We ordered and paid for a house survey (expensive), and the house was ready to go live on the property market at the end of last week.  However,  just because a door opens, doesn't mean it's the right door.  We discovered this when we began to walk through it.  We had absolutely no peace!

Such can be disappointing and difficult to understand, especially when we've been seeking God for guidance and believed in our hearts He was leading us in a certain direction.

During such times, we need to trust God despite our disappointment and confusion.  Whilst we cannot make sense of something, God ultimately can.  He sees the way ahead when we can't.  He knows, cares and orders our steps aright.

"The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps." —Proverbs 16:9

As aforementioned, just because a door of opportunity opens, doesn't mean it's the right door to walk through.  God will keep us right when we focus our eyes upon him. He orders our steps, and sometimes our stops also when necessary.  In our case, it was the peace of God that directed our steps to go no further.

Perhaps the timing was wrong. Perhaps we misjudged the situation.  Right now we do not know, but we are aware that God has directed us—or should I say "corrected us"—to stay put.  Praise God for keeping us right.
